Educational Visits

_DSC0010_edited.jpg

My name is Roger L. Stevens, Jr. and I am a professional wildlife photographer living in Lincoln, Maine.  Several years ago I started a second career as an author of children's nonfiction picture books, featuring my photographs, to share my love of the wildlife, places and events that make Maine such a special place. My books in order of their publishing are What Do Baby Foxes Do?, June the Loon: The Story of a Maine Loon Chick, Maine Moose on the Loose, A Day at the Fair, Babes in the Woods and Waters, Why Love a Puffin? and Mama Gray Saves the Day!

Five years ago I started going to school libraries and classroom as a visiting author, and I absolutely LOVED it! The enthusiasm and interest shown by my young audiences was inspiring.  I would like to bring my program to even more school districts, tailoring it to your needs around reading and writing nonfiction informational texts, writing process, etc.  I have many years of experience with photography, wildlife, writing, and story-telling, and can provide references for you to contact.

My usual fee is $450 plus mileage for a full school day of classes (usually 4 periods).  A keynote  in front of an assembled group is $250 plus mileage.  I will travel anywhere in New England, with overnight accommodations provided for me as needed.  Please contact me by e-mail at rogerstevens747@gmail.com or by cell at 207-290-1070 for a more exact cost.  Smaller schools with fewer students will be taken into consideration when we make our fee arrangements. Scheduling for me to visit several nearby schools on consecutive days can also be a savings.  At each visit, my books will be available for purchase, with autographing and personalization at no extra charge.  Order forms will be mailed to you before I arrive in order to give me an idea of how many books to bring. I also donate my complete series of books to your library upon each commitment, and I am happy to do Meet and Greet with parents. Please contact me at any time if you have more questions.

I can certainly adjust my fees and work out a remote or other program during pandemic learning.

I hope that I may one day be speaking to your learners about the power of reading and writing, as well as sharing photos of the wonderful wildlife Maine has to offer.
